Game 60: Knicks at Cavs

NEW YORK KNICKS (36-21) 102, CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (20-40) 97
Quicken Loans Arena
Monday
Radio/TV: WTAM (1100 AM), WFUN (970 AM)/Fox Sports Ohio

WHAT HAPPENED: This is devoted to one of the most efficient players in the NBA, Knicks center Tyson Chandler.

He wasn't named Defensive Player of the Year for nothing. He's a major presence in the paint for the Knicks. He blocked a potential game-tying 3-pointer by Cavs guard Kyrie Irving with 0.9 seconds left.

It saved the game for the Knicks.

"I knew they were going to him," Chandler said. "I knew if I switched on him, I would force him to drive. He went for the 3-point shot and I kind of baited him into shooting where I could still get to the shot."

He baited him all right. You want Irving to have the ball in his hands at that juncture. The Cavs had an idea that the 7-1 Chandler would switch on him. But they thought he'd be able to shake-and-bake and get a good look at the basket. He didn't.

It led to the Knicks' first win at The Q since Nov. 29, 2006, when Irving was 14 years old.

On a night they got Irving back, both center Tyler Zeller and shooting guard Dion Waiters were out with sickness. It's too bad because Waiters had been playing out of his mind. He was a 20-point threat, which was sorely needed on this night.

Zeller's size was needed. It's not that he has been doing much as of late, but he is the lone 7-footer on the roster.
